We help you get your story done. Period.
The process step by step
You are an important person. Your life and your story matter. Kept Memory can help you determine the best way to tell and preserve your story. Our simple steps will help you get it done.
First, we meet with you to understand your goals and desired outcomes.
At Kept Memory, we know that producing a personal history or tribute is an investment of your time, energy, and resources. We take that seriously—and at the same time we want the process of getting your personal history done to be enjoyable and easy for you.
We give you a written scope of work
After we learn about your ideas and timeline for completion, we will provide a written scope of work that describes what Kept Memory will provide and an estimate of the costs so there are no surprises.
Then, we create a plan based on your choices
The step-by-step process varies depending upon your choice of book, tribute, or memorial. When you have chosen the format you want for capturing your story, we will provide the specific steps for your unique project. This will include a schedule, tips for gathering and organizing your memorabilia and photographs, and a questionnaire to capture information for interviews and writing.
Typically the plan will include:
Typically the plan will include:
- interviewing
- transcribing the interviews
- editing and shaping a narrative in your voice
- revising and proofreading
- selecting photos and documents for scanning
- designing, printing, and binding
We work the agreed-to plan to complete your personal history.
Completing a memoir or autobiography can take from ten to eighteen months, so you will want to begin well before your milestone event. Tributes and memorials can be completed in as little as six to nine weeks from the time we have all of your project materials in hand. We encourage a celebratory event such as a book signing when you receive your books.
